Our Love Story

Our love story begins on a plane, but this is not the stereotypical story between a flight attendant and a captain. This is the story of flight attendant Ellie, mum of two who tried to get rid of a trip to Singapore and Sydney as that was 9 days away from Federico and Lavinia. And Captain Graham, dad of two who picked up that trip from overtime as the money was too good! Ellie was not interested in late nights and drinking at the bars and she was happy to spend her time doing her own thing. Graham was at the bars and having late nights! He tried to socialise with Ellie by attempting speaking in Spanish but she didn't respond as she is Italian! Their paths didn't cross until Ellie went for a run in Sydney and bumped into Graham who bizarrely was going for a run too and bizarrely in the same direction! They ran for miles in the beautiful and romantic setting of the botanical gardens by the Opera House, chatting away. Ellie was quite impressed to hear how many things and values they had in common, even a passion for cooking that Graham just realised to have ! They spent the rest of the trip chatting and running until the end of the 9 days when it was time to say goodbye. Graham shyly tried to ask for her number, but Ellie didn't give it away! It was only when a few days later Ellie received an email from Graham asking for the recipe for the ragu' (bolognese sauce) as he wanted to cook a nice dinner for his daughters that night, that he won her heart. The next email she received was to say how the ragu' was a success and how much his girls have loved it. It was then that Ellie thought to accept his kind offer to take her out for dinner as a thank you. It was the 8th of December 2014 in a lovely Italian restaurant in Covent Garden where the magic began. A special night that we celebrate at the same restaurant every year since then, feeling blessed that we have our beautiful family, with our son Roberto and all of our children. The ragu' is still one of our favourite recipes, even if Jessica and Ella revealed that their dad never cooked it !

Our Wedding on the Amalfi Coast

We love Italy and the stunning views from the Amalfi Coast, famous for its picturesque seaside towns, cliffs, and beaches. Its main towns are Positano, Amalfi, and Sorrento but we wanted something more intimate and less touristy and that’s why we have chosen Vietri sul Mare for our wedding. We are organising a few days of celebrations during which we will be visiting a few touristic sites. We hope you will be able to join us. Please visit the Events section for more information.

Our Wedding Venue

Our Wedding ceremony and dinner party will take place at the Hotel Raito, a luxury five-star hotel with a breathtaking view of the Amalfi Coast. All rooms are decorated with traditional Vietri’s ceramics and facilities include free Wi-Fi and an outdoor swimming pool. Find out more on the Venue section of this website.

Maid Of Honour and Best Man

Liza Rivers

If you hear a contagious laugh and a passionate conversation about love, family and food, that is Liza! Full of energy with an ardent personality, Liza has Italian blood in her veins and a true love for Italy. Pasta is on the table everyday and her door is always open for friends and family. Our babies Roberto and William led us to meet and connect to each other since the first moment. Thank you for always being there for me and on my special day, my dearest friend.

Sandy Bangert

I have known Alex (Sandy) for nearly 50 years, since growing up together in Middlesbrough. Sandy is a keen Boro fan like the rest of our family (apart from Roberto who supports Italia!). We have shared many adventures and travelled the world from skiing in France, golf in Spain to watching the IPL in India. Sandy is looking forward to meeting you all and I understand has even been practising his Italian ready for the wedding !
